Sunday, Dec. 6 - Tuesday, Dec. 8

We impatiently waited in our hotel room to go meet our baby girl at the baby house. We filled our days with multiple room upgrades, stints at the gym, email correspondence, and waited some more. We can’t drink the water here, so Wendy developed a system for brushing our teeth/cleaning retainers, using designated “rinse and spit” glasses with bottled water. Our translator is amazed at how frequently we buy bottled water, clearly our biggest expense here.

We ventured out for a brisk walk with our translator one evening for SIM cards and a cell phone that worked (sorry Joe, no IPhone here), and ended with our first authentic dinner. The city is paradoxical-- newer buildings and amenities, women fashionably dressed with stiletto boots (Yes, even in the snow) and sparkling hair clips. Alongside all of this are older houses, some without running water, where clothes are hung outside to dry.

  1. Wendy and Joe,
I'm thinking of you and hoping that all is going well.
I think about your daughter meeting you.
And you meeting her. Such a life-altering experience
    in so many ways.
I looked on a map to see where you are. Wow!!!!
You are brave to take this trip and venture into the unknown.
    (Many unknowns)
My heart and prayers are with you.
The best of luck to you.
    Much love
    Sylvia
