Monday, Feb. 1 - Tuesday, Feb. 9

Alas, no passport on Feb. 5. Just waiting for it to be properly processed and eventually returned here. At the end of the week we were able to get Emma’s medical clinic visit done. But, unfortunately there have been more glitches in the processing-- documents sent back and forth between different cities, our coordinators doing everything they can to influence and expedite things, but more waiting for us. Our patience is wearing thin and our desire to be back home is increasing. I’ve never felt so helpless and impotent to influence something moving forward. We’ve made calls to our US embassy, but to no avail due to lack of jurisdiction here. So, what to do but pray, trust, and enjoy our 24/7 time with our amazing baby, Emma. And, remember how blessed we are to be a family together. Thank goodness for Joe’s creativity and humor with Emma. He dances and sings to distract her during diaper changes; it’s quite a challenge to keep her from rolling continuously. His years of athletic coaching are paying off, as he teaches Emma to bear weight with her legs and sit. Yea-- she now successfully can sit on her own.

OK, some truly good news was told to us late Monday evening. Emma’s passport has been sent to this city, for the final processing here on Tuesday. It’s Tuesday afternoon as I write this. We plan to do our final interview at the US embassy this afternoon. Then head to the airport at midnight for our 2:30 am flight-- first to one city here; a short lay-over; then on to our European city; a lay-over; and then our final flight to our home city. Hopefully, Emma will sleep most (or some) of the time, and before we know it, we’ll be landing at O’Hare-- exhausted but exuberant to be home!
